Top 9 Email List Building Plugins for WordPress Compared (2021)

Many online entrepreneurs take too long, if ever, to start building an email list. Perhaps they don’t understand the value of an email list to an online business. Or maybe they don’t know which email marketing service to use or how to send out email campaigns.

The real reason, however, is probably that they are unaware of the many email list building plugins for WordPress that make creating or reinventing an email list incredibly easy.

If you don’t already, you need a great email list to drive more traffic to your website and sell your products. In fact, email marketing is one of the best ways to nurture new relationships with subscribers and encourage loyal followers and customers to come back to your site time and again.

So are you ready to create appealing and highly converting opt-in forms so you can boost your email list building efforts? If so, we have just the plugins for you. Keep reading to find one that’s best for you.

But first, let’s take a look at what an email list building plugin should have in terms of design and functionality.

What to Look for in an Email List Building Plugin for WordPress

Every email list building plugin will differ when it comes to design, functionality, price, and more. That’s why it’s important you evaluate your individual needs before making a final decision, so that you choose the right email list building solution for you.

Here are some of the features you should look for in an email list building plugin:

  • Ease of Use: any time you add a new plugin to your WordPress website, you should be able to use it with ease. Complex configurations and design options seem good at first, but can make growing your email list harder than it has to be.
  • Customization: no matter what kind of subscribe box you use, or where it’s at on your website, it’s always nice to be able to match it to your overall brand and web design. Look for features that allow you to customize the font styles, color schemes, and layouts so that your site visitors know it’s a part of your brand. In addition, keep an eye out for pre-designed templates to save yourself time and get inspired.
  • Integrations: one of the most important parts of email marketing (besides collecting email addresses) is managing your contacts. It doesn’t matter which email marketing service you prefer. All that matters is that the list building plugin you choose integrates with it so when someone subscribes, their information is automatically sent to your growing email list.
  • Analytics: it’s always helpful to collect data as people subscribe so you can make actionable and data-driven decisions to improve your email marketing efforts and grow your following or business.
  • Responsive Design: you don’t want to alienate a large portion of your target audience because they can’t subscribe to your email list on their mobile device. Any email list building plugin you use should be mobile-friendly and responsive by design so that no matter the screen size, your site visitors can sign up.
  • Entry Management: even if you have your subscriber information importing automatically into your email service provider, it’s good to have a way to monitor form entries on the backend of your WordPress website. You’ll want to know when someone subscribes and easily be able to see their entry without having to leave your website.
  • Advanced Functionality: convincing people to subscribe can be tough since every website wants to grow their email list. That’s why advanced functionality such as retargeting, exit intent, popup forms, and other triggers are great for getting people to sign up at the last second. After all, once they’re gone they may never return. But if you have their email address and can reach out to them, you have another opportunity to convert a lead into a paying customer.
  • Support: as with most WordPress plugins, support is an essential feature to look for before deciding which solution is right for you. 24/7 support over multiple channels such as email, phone, and live chat is ideal.

Now that you know some of the most important features to look for in your WordPress email list building plugin, let’s take a look at the top ones in the market.

  • This is a very helpful post. I am looking into developing a health blog that will include multiple types of categories.

Do any of these email list builders have the option for blog readers to pick which email notifications they are interested in receiving? For example, they may want to be notified when a post is published on weight loss but may not be interested in being notified when a post is published about back pain.

    • So glad to hear that, Amy.

What you're trying to achieve is called tagging, and it can be done via auto-responder service such as Drip & ActiveCampaign. If you're looking for something cheaper / in-expensive (or free till 2000 subscribers), try MailChimp.

And if you go with MailChimp, select "groups", which will add checkbox in your opt-in form. Then users can mark the check-box if they wish to receive posts from that particular group or category.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • Pretty useful post with handy list of plugins. I used a few of them on my client's website and pretty happy with the results.

    • Hirewpgeeks.com – IS A BIG CON - Beware!!
I contacted this company hirewpgeeks ltd and they gave me a quote to build my website, they wanted 50% upfront and promised to have it done in 22 working days. When the deadline came and went, they started blaming each other for xyz or even me for rushing them.
Two months went by with excuse after excuse and finally they stopped answering my calls, emails and skype.
http://www.hirewpgeeks.com claim to be USA based on their website but I think they are all Indian based with US phone numbers. Its impossible to trace a Phonenumber listed to anyone other than the front man Chetan who answered the phone when I called. The so-called designer Ajay and Shushant the so-called project manager both don’t have phone numbers just skype addresses that they chose to reply to when it suits them.

I realise now that It was a big con and you must not believe the good reviews you may see on the internet, they are all written by Chetan, One of the reviewers you will see is a "Tracy Jones" and as I’ve found out, this is one of the aliases they use while advertising their company, the picture they have of her is a stock photo that you can get off the internet to use for any marketing campaign...

I think the scam is managed by Chetan, he writes tons of reviews and promises the world to unsuspecting victims like me...
You are welcome to write to me if you have any questions about my experience

      • Hey Steve,

Sorry to hear that. I have seen them around and never liked their marketing style, but wasn't knew they were this bad. I just looked at their about page and their is no human face or real information about where they are located, plus I have got a few requests for guest posts from Tracy Jones myself and I always thought her face looked like a stock photo :).

So thank you Steve for sharing your experience. I hope your comment can help other users.

      • Stop spamming. "Steve" is a profile created by one of our competitors for harming our reputation. I have checked all my past client requests and I never found anyone named "Steve". We are a reputed WordPress web development company and provide outsource services. We respects out client's needs and we are a trusted company with many happy clients all over the world.
